WHAT WE DO

Education Workshops
Twice a year the Committee and Board members organize an educational workshop, to raise awareness about current environmental problems or issues within the profession. Speakers from all over the state, and sometimes the Nation, are brought in to present on items such as their current research, outbreaks, immerging infectious diseases, new septic system designs, soil and water quality research, emergency response, and many other topics.

Each year the fall conference is held in Charlottesville, VA, a good center point for all Virginia EHS to meet. VEHA understands that many environmental health professionals are extremely busy, and cannot always make the trip out to Charlottesville. So, VEHA tries to accommodate this by hosting the spring workshop in a different location within the other four regions of the state.

Professional Advancement
A goal of VEHA is to promote high standards of qualifications and professional ethics within the field of environmental health. Members are encouraged to obtain professional certifications, such as, the Registered Environmental Health Specialist/ Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS), Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP), and Authorized Onsite Soil Evaluator (AOSE).

Student Scholarships
Each year, an undergraduate and graduate student are selected to receive a $750.00 scholarship to assist with tuition and books. Scholarships.
