ATTENDING MEMBERS: Amy Pemberton, Preston Smith, Ed Dunn, David Fridley, & Kimberly Cole.

NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING
Friday, January 26, 2007 in Charlottesville. Meeting location TBA.

ITEMS DISCUSSED
General Info:
David discovered a plaque buried in “the box” showing that 2006 is VEHA’s 40th anniversary.

Ed Dunn will serve as VEHA’s representative for VCOWT (Virginia Center for Onsite Wastewater Training).

Preston to give Kim the VEHA computer.

Eric Myers is head of nominations committee.

Eric Myers, Cecil, and Amy will take over award nomination reviews.

David to change VEHA’s address to his personal mailing address.

Fall Workshop
Attendees - 78 total (36 VEHA, 18 CASA, 19 non-members, 5 students)
Vendors - none
Costs - 1,491.73 (1,000 venue, 491.73 food)
Non-Dues Revenue - 1,340
Dues Revenue - 510
Memberships - 34 renewed/joined for Workshop
40+ Educational Certificates
15 AOSE CEU Certificates

Workshop evaluations were reviewed and discussed. The demographic surveys were not available and will be reviewed at the following meeting.

CEUs- Discussed options for CEUs. David will continue to work with ODU and provide information. Ed researched SSCC and found that it was a good training site/location with a long application process. The Board discussed whether VEHA would require attendance for the entire conference in order to receive CEUs or Educational Certificates.

Spring Workshop
The Board would like to focus on getting vendor participation. David gave Preston a vendor list (mostly on-site), but we need more ideas for general EH and food vendors.

Location Ideas - Preston will contact Chris Gordon of National Capital to discuss having a joint conference in Manassas. VEHA would focus primarily on Onsite and National Capital would focus on food/general EH. NOVA Community College has an auditorium ($60/hr) and classrooms ($15/hr). Our back-up locations are Germanna Community College (same set-up as NOVA only with fewer food choices), Twin Lakes State Park (Farmville), Hampton/Newport News, The Glens Campus, Yorktown (includes Marina Training the day before the conference?), and Henrico County Fire Training Facility. The goal is to decide on a location by December/January.

Possible Speakers - Ken Shultz and David Easton for Industrial Hygiene (N & NW regions), Jay Conta, Anish Jantrania, DCR, speakers involved in the field epidemiology seminar (Preston to call speakers).

Food choices for each location were discussed. Possibly provide box lunches (cover cost up front in registration fee)? *Discuss at next meeting*

Reminder from David: Memberships are only good until to the end of the calendar year.

*The date must be coordinated with Danna’s onsite training in April to make sure there are no schedule conflicts.*

Budget
Ideas for fundraising: Increasing workshop registration fees, increasing dues, selling t-shirts, mugs, hats, etc. *This issue will be discussed at the next meeting.*

Website
Need to update officers, post minutes, and post Workshop pictures (contact Richard). The scholarship application is available online; completed applications sent to Eric Myers or Amy Pemberton, need to finalize and post deadline. Create an awards nomination section (Environmental Health Professional of the Year and NEHA Certificate of merit should be sent to Amy; Amy to make form).

Bulletin
The deadline for submissions is December 15th. VEHA will continue to mail out hard copies and post past issues on the website. David distributed an old survey asking VEHA members what issues they would like to hear about (survey to be included in Bulletin).

Sarah’s ideas: letter from President, Cecil to write article about conference, letter from training coordinator, benefit of REHS, value of VEHA membership. Richard to take pictures at the fall conference for the Bulletin.

Sewage Advisory Committee
Pam Pruett is VEHA representative on the Sewage Advisory Committee. We will discuss options for delivering information at the next meeting.

Possible Ideas: create forum on the website, set up an email account to receive comments/concerns from members, post material on website or Bulletin for response from members.

Question: Will VEHA filter and condense these comments for Pam or do we deliver unfiltered comments and forward to Pam?
