VEHA Board Meeting - 1/26/07

ATTENDING MEMBERS: Amy Pemberton, Catherine Cummins, Eric Myers, Ed Dunn, Preston Smith, David Fridley, Richard Michelback.

ITEMS DISCUSSED
Spring Educational Workshop
To be held on April 27, 2007 at the Northern Virginia Community College, Manassas campus. The workshop will be co-sponsored by the National Capitol Area Environmental Health Association. Preston presented a suggested agenda with speakers and topics. See attached. NCAEHA will coordinate speakers and topics for the afternoon food/general EH track.
Lunch will not be provided to the attendees. A morning break and an afternoon break will be needed. It was suggested the VEHA sponsor one break, while NCAEHA sponsors the other break. Preston to speak with Patrick about these two items.
Vendors are needed. They pay $150 per table to set up. Richard to contact NoVA contact in the food service industry to inquire. Also, notify vendors from list assimilated by Jason.
CEUs will be available. If agenda can accommodate 5 contact hours, ODU will provide .5 CEU, otherwise, .4 CEUs will be available for onsite track. Coordination with OEHS will provide CEU equivalent for food/general EH track.
Registration fees: it was decided that registration for members will be $20, with membership costing an additional $15. Non member registration will be $35
Students, as always, are free to attend the workshop, and a $5 membership fee.
We will reserve the theater for the a.m. track and opening comments. The afternoon will utilize two classrooms. Vendors and breaks will be set up all day in an additional room.
Discussion of “mini-workshops” at different locales around the state.
May 2007 “Swimming Pool” training for VDH staff sponsored by VEHA and possibly co-sponsored by TEHA. Carol Puckett of Peninsula Health District was recommended by Catherine to teach the class. Amy to contact Carol. Different locations were discussed, Peninsula Health District auditorium, Hampton Health Dept., Va. Beach conference room. Preston/Catherine to check with Danna Revis about available dates/conflicts in May. Amy to check on availability of PHC auditorium lecure in the morning, with field training in the afternoon.
August/September 2007 tour and lecture of water treatment plant in Wytheville, VA was suggested. Another suggestion for SW VA, small community systems that are being installed. Preston to coordinate.

Amy met with Pam on 1/25/2007 to go over updates of Board members, etc.
David has provided an email address: veha.board@hotmail.com for members to contact the Board for miscellaneous comments, suggestions, concerns over EH matters. Suggestion made to provide a comment page.

Delegate/Treasurer Positions:
Catherine Cummins has agreed to step in to a Delegate at Large position. Thanks Catherine!

Capitol Area delegate Amy to contact Beth Manghi of Chickahominy district to see if she or someone in her district would be interested in serving on the Board.

Has been filed and address updated by David. Current list of officers provided.
SHAC representation
Pam Pruett provided the Board with an update from the last sewage handling and advisory committee meeting. Concern - logistics of receiving a report from Pam to the Board, then to the membership, and then be able to provide feedback in a timely manner back to Pam, to provide to the committee.
Calendar
Was suggested at 11/06 meeting by David. Calendar approved by Board to adopt for future use.
Officer Guides
David made suggestion to provide an “S.O.P.” (standard operating procedure) for each Board position. Each Board member shall create from the By-laws, a more detailed “how to” guide for future use for each position.
Demographic Survey of Workshop Attendees

New Business
Bills in the General Assembly HB1949, HB 1950, HB 1951, HB 3134, HB 3136, SB 2691, SB 2102 were briefly discussed. VP for Professional Advancement oversees legislative affairs, with committee chair assisting. Discussion of response by organization for 2008 General Assembly.
A.E.C. scheduled for June 2007 in Atlantic City, NJ. Board voted to pay up to $1000 for David to attend and represent VEHA.
Membership Update and Treasury Report provided by Sarah via email. Discussed and approved.
